Justice for EMS

FDNY EMS workers have been fighting for equal pay and treatment for several years. EMT’s and Paramedics find themselves in a stressful and dangerous environment every day. They regularly put their safety on the line, dealing with emotionally-disturbed patients, stabbings, shootings, and car accidents. In addition to this, they aid firefighters with emergency response during fires. Overworked emergency medical workers jeopardize their own health and wellbeing every day, and in return are not even granted time to eat a meal during the day. Now, during the COVID-19 outbreak, Firefighters won’t be aiding EMS with virus-related calls. This leaves medical workers at the front line battling this pandemic alone, putting understaffed, overworked and newly hired EMS workers (and their families) under severe risk. Despite the many sacrifices made by EMS workers daily, a great pay gap remains, leaving them with no choice but to keep overworking themselves in order to survive. This is a small drop in a sea of struggles FDNY EMS workers face each day. So, we are asking for your help to shine light on this issue and demand justice, equal pay and equal opportunities for Medical staff, so our city can remain safe and healthy.
