The New Westminster School District has recently made the decision to remove 25% of our available teaching space. We respectfully request that the portable remain in its current location.
A hallway is not a teaching space, nor is it reasonable to expect our children to develop essential learning, literacy and math skills while struggling to keep warm and dry outdoors throughout the school year - which is unavoidable, and unsafe if we lose our portable.
All students in New Westminster have the right to learn in a safe and secure teaching space.
Our children use the portable classroom to learn math, language arts, French, science, social studies, music, drama and self-regulation in multi-grade classes where diverse needs and interests come together to create an engaging learning environment. These classes are essential and work in collaboration with the teaching we do at home.
Our children currently have a wonderful space in which to learn and grow. We simply ask that they be allowed to keep this space.
