Bring back the lights to The Rise in Scotswood Newcastle upon Tyne for added security!
The residents of The Rise in Scotswood Newcastle upon Tyne would like to bring back the lights along the foot path between Whitehouse Road and Chester Pike. The lights had been there for more than 5 years when they for some reason were removed in 2021.
The path is used by residents for recreational purposes, such as exercise and dog walking, and for walking to and from work/bus stops and the residents are made to feel unsafe due to the darkness and also due to Whitehouse road and the vegetation being used for questionable purposes. We have all witnessed people loitering about in the darkness in the area and it's scary because we don't know what they want at all times. Particularly lone females and females with children are vulnerable.
Added light could also help bring down anti social behaviour and crime in the area and it would bring back the look of the area that we were presented with at the point of buying/renting on The Rise.
It must be noted that the quality of the two sets of previous light bollards has been poor and that they haven't been fit for purpose. Lights need to be higher and vandal proof so they can't be kicked and/or knocked down by cars.
