Stop the NL Vapour Products Tax
Stop the NL Vapour Products Tax

The provincial government of Newfoundland and Labrador has introduced a 20% product tax on vapour products purchased by NL residents made effective as of January 1st, 2021. That's 20% on top of the normal taxes!
This dubious tax will harm the the local vaping industry, lowering economic potential of the areas which host business activity related to the industry. St.john's for example, has a thriving industry which will be stunted by the governments own hand.
The consumer will be harmed by this tax as well. A study conducted by Minnesota, “The impact of E-cig taxes on smoking rates: Evidence from Minnesota,” found that taxing vaping products would lead to an 8.1% increase in tobacco use and a smoking cessation decrease of 1.4%. It also found that if vapour products had not been taxed an additional 32,400 adults would have quit smoking.
During a pandemic, the provincial government thinks it's wise to to toy around with your money and earning potential by implementing a tax which may lead to many NL residents to go back to smoking cigarettes.
If you are against this tax and would like to see it abolished, or at the very least reformed to a sensible amount; please sign this petition and push for change.
Thank you!
