Ensure New Rochelle 2018-19 School Budget with NO Cuts Below the Tax Cap

This petition serves to ensure that the New Rochelle School District’s Budget passes in June.  Our group is committed to fully funding the budget without any cuts and without breaking the tax cap.

How? Simple:

We recommend funding the needed $3.4 million budget reduction through the Unrestricted Fund so that we are under the cap. The fund will then be replenished from the expected current year’s surplus.

This petition DOES NOT want any programs in the original budget cut.

We also request the creation of a designated Board of Education Budget Committee that includes BOE members and community members tasked with the responsibility of reviewing the budget line by line during the next academic year.  We recommend this committee be selected over the summer to begin meeting in September. Working together in this manner will enable the District to put forth a budget with community support the first time it is presented next spring.

The conservative approach to using unrestricted funds ensures that no items are cut from the budget because we recognize that a revised budget needs to be constructed in a week’s time. This is an enormous task that requires analysis. The ACTUAL projections through the end of the fiscal year along with the encumbrances have yet to be made available for analysis and therefore using the Unrestricted Fund is the most responsible way to avoid knee-jerk reactions resulting in cuts from the budget without in depth analysis.

In short - our group will support the new budget with no cuts in June along with the commitment to create a Budget Committee.

Please forward to friends and neighbors.

Thank you.
