I would like to start a petition to change the New Richmond dress code. The handbook says that girls' shorts must be finger tip length or longer in order to be "appropriate for school." One of the many problems with this is that stores these days, don't sell a big variety, if any, shorts that match this requirement. The few choices that do exist aren't very affordable. As a result, girls are forced to wear long pants or jeans in 80 to 100 degree temperatures, which could cause health problems such as over-heating, fainting, heat exhaustion, etc. If a girls' shorts are not "appropriate" she could be sent home, or if told too many times, suspended. So in essence, the school is taking away our education just because of the shorts we are wearing, when we can't control the heat and the shorts we buy.
