As a journalism educator and former high school journalist myself, I see the value in an open and free press. Student journalists need the opportunity to learn and produce quality work in a realistic environment. Unpopular opinions are meant to be heard just as much as those held by a majority.

Im signing because i dont think it's right for the students opinion to not be expressed or censored. The students knew they were going to be interviewed which means they were well aware that people where going to reaf what they said. If they did not request to be anonymous then why do it. Its just not right.

Reporting the truth and both sides of a story regardless of how a limited number of people will perceive it is important. Why shelter the students? Instead introduce them to these topics and allow for healthy debate in a controlled environment. To hide this and any topic from them is not totally preparing them for the real world.

I agree with her argument and people should have to hear her side too!

Schools have NO right to tell our students what they are supposed to feel and/or believe. They are there to teach ... and ONLY teach in an unbiased and neutral stance of any issues. It is up to the students to then decide on their own what their feelings are.

I'm signing because it's in the amendment too many people think they have more power these days than what they really do. Plus nph principle doesn't care about bullying seeing as last year he very clearly let multiple girls get hurt. The guy is a douche. Its 2014 almso 15. Get over yourself. It's going to happen whether you like it or not. Its not like gay marriage is anything new. It's been happening for YEARS. and a little new prairie high school isn't going to change that. Take away her rights and you'll have an even bigger issue on your hands. Sooooo dumb.

I used to go to new prairie. We as students should be able to broadcast our opinions just as much as the faculty..

I strongly believe that gay marriage should be legal. Members of the LGBT community should be allowed to voice their opinions and concerns.

I am a graduate of NPHS and I'm not very proud to admit it. This decision by the school is disgusting. I fully support this petition. Good job Megan!
