There has been a lot in the news each October/November each year about banning the sale of fireworks in New Zealand. The main support/justification for the banning of fireworks appears to be problems caused by misuse, harm to animals and the increase in demand for emergency services. 

I do not agree with banning fireworks or their sale to individuals for private displays as this was one of my favorite pastimes and family memories,  however do agree that they come with their issues.

I believe that there would be significant reduction for aforementioned concerns at a national and regional level if there was an alternative options such as a local council organised professional displays, perhaps supported with a fair, market, food vendors, etc. and could be supported with a gold goin donation, local businesses or even Rotory/Lions club charity event. Overtime there would be a reduction in demand for private displays, bring the community together and make our city one to visit.
