I’m sure everyone is aware of the rise in police brutality towards people of ethnic minorities (especially the black community). This has been an ongoing political issue for decades for which has led to me creating this petition in order to bring about change to policing and the criminal justice system, so that officers who do abuse their authority are held accountable for their actions. I’m aware that there are good police officers out there, however there is a large sum who implement their racist views into practice. Police officers have a legal duty to protect the public not inflict harm. Just within this past week I have watched countless videos of where police have physically assaulted, racially profiled and arrested young black men without reasonable grounds. This is unacceptable and I strongly believe that new laws should be implemented to prevent police officers using unprovoked violence against individuals. The laws should state that any officer found to abuse their authority should be fired with immediate effect and prosecuted.
