justice for the murder of Maurice Gordon Jr. a 28-year-old black man who was killed by a New Jersey State Police officer on the Garden State Parkway last month.

The state attorney general’s office said it is still investigating the fatal shooting of Maurice Gordon Jr. by a member of the state police in Bass River, Burlington County, at 6:30 a.m. on May 23.

the shooting occurred after Mr. Gordon, a Poughkeepsie, N.Y., resident studying to be a chemist, was pulled over for allegedly speeding while driving alone. Mr. Gordon had no criminal record, according to Mr. Wagstaff.

The video shows that after waiting for over 30 minutes without any arrest or information on why he was being held, Mr. Gordon tried to leave the vehicle, and an officer handled him roughly, the lawyer said. He said multiple gunshots and Mr. Gordon’s scream could be heard on the videotape, which then showed an officer picking up Mr. Gordon’s body, dropping it and handcuffing him.

“He was cuffed after being shot and manhandled on the floor,” Mr. Wagstaff said. He said he wasn’t told whether the man died at the scene, in an ambulance or at a hospital.

The family’s lawyer, William O. Wagstaff III, said Friday his work has been hampered because he hasn’t been allowed to see full video footage from the officer’s car, the medical examiner’s report or the name of the officer involved. He said he doesn’t know whether any officers were disciplined.
