Jack D started this petition to New Jersey General Assembly

The only states where it is flat out illegal to pump your own gas are New Jersey and Oregon. In New Jersey, the Retail Gasoline Dispensing Safety Act (N.J.S.A. 34:3A-4 et seq.) and Regulations (N.J.A.C. 12:196) mandates that "no person dispense fuel at a gasoline station, unless that person is an attendant who has received fuel dispensing instructions." The Retail Gasoline Dispensing Safety Act also ensures compliance with appropriate safety procedures, the prohibition of the self service of gasoline and other inflammable liquids, and the installation of safety signs and equipment to enhance safety at retail gasoline stations. It is an absolutely ridiculous law that does nothing except slow down the process of pumping gas, and considering that NJ is the state with the highest population density (1210.10/sq mi), it is a very ineffective process. It generally increases traffic and increases gas prices. The whole process is very dated and has no practical value in modern society. It is about time that someone made a stand to remove this ridiculous law from New Jersey!
