This petition is for parents and supporters of children on the autism spectrum and other developmental disabilities who are registered with DDD. We need services to be distributed equitably and with transparency. Parents need to know what services are being delivered and who is receiving them. For families that were previously receiving services but were cut, we need to know if the services are no longer available. For families who are registered and have repeatedly been denied services, we deserve an explanation as to why we are not and have not been receiving any services.
Due to reorganization of services within the state, families with children who have developmental disabilities are receiving less care and options. Previously children under the age of 21 had to register with the Department of Human Services Division of Developmental Disabilities to be eligible for services. On January 2, 2013 those children were transferred to the Department of Children and Families’ Children’s System of Care.
Prior to the reorganization there was little transparency of how much funding was available to families, how it was dispersed and why some families were receiving up to several thousands of dollars of funding while others were receiving none. Many families were never able to get services. Some were never even able to reach their case managers.
Parents were informed that with the transferring of services things would change for the better. With the changes to the Children's System of Care under the Department of Children and Families those that were previously receiving services are now being denied them. Families who were once being put on waiting lists for services are now being told that wait lists no longer exist and there is no funding.
Parents who have children with developmental disabilities who are registered with the State of New Jersey are receiving letters that PerformCare New Jersey is being publicly funded to administer services for children up to the age of 21. But parents are not able to access any services. These services that are publicly funded – your tax dollars, my tax dollars.
