We have a floater Mediclaim Policy covering my family. My wife contracted severe Covid infection in April 21 and had to be hospitalized. She was put on external oxygen support. We were very fortunate to get a bed in a hospital with a oxygen cylinder, which helped save life of my wife, when my city - Surat was witnessing influx of hospitalisation at the rate of more than 500 patientes per day and roads and streets were filled with constant shrills of ambulance sirens.

Eventually my wife was discharged but with huge hospital bills, which as per hospital was in line with the rate approved and prescribed by local municiple corporation for Covid patients. I submitted the claim to insurance company. They eventually asked more documents including transcript of daily treatment records of my wife. Every thing submitted in time ,duly authenticated by hospital. After a week , I received a settlement letter, approving only 50% amount ! by insurance company TPA. This is a criminal offence by insurance company , as they have their eye on maintaining profit at the expense of Policy holders who pays hefty premiums through their noses. I raised a gravience and sent a mail to insurance company, but without response. My petition is as under:

1. Insurance companies be instructed to pay full claimed amount if supported by genuine documents.

2. Insurance companies must be penalised for arbitrarily deducting claimed amounts.

3. The matter of alleged over-charges must be asked to be  settled between insurance companies  and hospitals,if any and   if they have disagreement, sparing the common policy holder, as a common citizen does not have any choice to select or negotiate charges with hoapital under pandemic situation. A disaster management act must include and safe guard the interest of patients undergoing treatment at availble hospitals during pandemic situation.
