Sarah Weston started this petition to New Forest National Park Authority and

On 7th August 2021 my four year old New Forest Pony, Juma, who was living out (semi-feral) on the New Forest was killed by a driver who has been summonsed for driving without due care and attention. The specific details cannot be revealed until the court case is over but Juma sustained two broken legs, smashed teeth and died as a result of internal injuries. A 'speedbot' (a device which can monitor and record the speed at which cars are travelling from smartphone information) has revealed what many already knew or suspected; some drivers are deliberately speeding across the open Forest which has a speed limit of 40 miles per hour at speeds ranging from 49 to 75 mph throughout the day and the night. During one 24 hour period there were 182 such instances including many at night at up to 75 mph. At present we are reliant on one voluntary police officer carrying out speed checks on the whole of the Forest including busy commuter routes and we lose in excess of 50 animals every year. We need the authorities to install AVERAGE SPEED CAMERAS along these busiest routes. The authorities maintain that 'raising awareness' and 'education' are sufficient when clearly they are not. Please sign this petition!
