Nevada State Legislation Mistreats Diabetics. We Need a Patients’ Bill of Rights.

The Nevada legislature is debating proposed legislation without considering what it might mean for thousands of people with diabetes in the state, including Latinos who are overly affected by this disease. If we don’t speak up for what’s in the best interests of patients, it’s possible that Nevadans with diabetes could lose their access to insulin and other medications that they need to live and survive.
The legislation – SB 265 – is being advertised as a solution to drug prices. However, it’s far from it. What it does is require drug companies to pay insurance companies while likely restricting access to diabetes medications that patients rely upon.
PLEASE SIGN MY PETITION AND SEND A MESSAGE TO OUR ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES: IT’S TIME TO FOCUS ON THE NEEDS OF NEVADANS VS. THE NEEDS OF BIG INSURANCE COMPANIES.
I’m writing this petition as a patients’ bill of rights for diabetes. For decades, I’ve worked tirelessly to help ensure that everyone who has diabetes or knows someone with the disease is able to get the medicines they need, the care they deserve and, above all, are able to live life to the fullest.
Every person with diabetes deserves the following: a guarantee from elected officials that they will always put people first, good insurance coverage that actually helps people manage the disease and, most importantly, ongoing access to insulin and other medicines.
For Nevada’s legislators who might vote in favor of this bill, I’m asking you to go one step further. If you support SB 265, I’m asking that you sign an agreement with your constituents that you will formally take responsibility for every person with diabetes who is not able to get medicines or care as a result. I’m also asking that you to announce your position on this bill publicly.
To all Nevadans, if you agree that we need a patients’ bill of rights, I’m asking that you sign my petition and share with everyone you know on Facebook and Twitter.
Your voice matters. Thank you for joining with me.
