Neurodivergent Education for Teachers

Neurodivergent Education for Teachers
Why this petition matters

Within New Zealand schools, neurodivergent students are not being supported in the way that they should be. For example, teachers are not being properly educated on the effects and nature of the neurodivergent brain specifically on one's school education, and therefore diverse learners are not being understood and responded to in the way that would best benefit them, their parents, and the teachers involved.
This needs to change. I believe that teachers should receive a fully resourced, mandatory course on neurodivergence as a concept within their years of teacher training, and this should be treated with the same urgency and importance as being educated on mental health and sexuality. Everyone deserves a fair shot at excelling in school, yet this is hindered by the lack of support and basic understanding towards students with all kinds of learning styles and various ways of cognitive function.
We have the power to make the change. Simply by raising awareness on the prevalent issue and letting our voices be heard by the government, starting with the signing of this petition.
