Keep the Weatherby Level Crossing in Newmarket Open.

Network Rail want to close the Weatherby Level Crossing in Newmarket.
Network Rail claim that this crossing is dangerous, despite it being used every day by hundreds of people. Trains only pass twice every hour and at a relatively slow speed.
Newmarket residents insist this is a right of way and that the decision to close the crossing is purely a financial one by Network Rail.
Network Rail insist alternative routes are available - there are two. One route is 1.1 miles long, and the other is just over half a mile, with an uphill section too. This is the distance to get from one side of the crossing to the other - the width of a railway line plus a few feet if the crossing is kept open.
The alternative routes are not convenient at all, and the elderly and residents with children may find that they are no longer able to walk into town or take their children to school. Put simply the alternative routes are not viable alternatives due to their length.
We ask Network Rail to accept that the crossing is a vital route to residents of Newmarket and to keep it open.
