Networks Should Fact Check Trump Before They Broadcast His Speeches

Donal Trump has launched an unprecedented campaign against the media, calling it "The enemy of the American people". Despite these attacks and repeated falsehoods by Mr. Trump, the networks continue to give him unfettered and often unchallenged access to the airwaves. Checking the facts hours after a speech has little impact. We believe the networks should follow on the old "7 second delay" in order to fact check Mr. Trump before they air his speeches. They should pool their resources, just as they do for election numbers, and bring in a trusted third party such as FactCheck.org to check the veracity of his statements in every speech and appearance. Only then should they broadcast his appearance, properly annotated, detailing both accurate statements and falsehoods. We believe that with adequate resources this could be done with only a modest delay in the time between his utterances and their airing. We think that this is a fair way for the media to reclaim the role of gate-keepers instead of simply providing an open spigot for untruths.
