Comedy Saved My Life started this petition to Netflix and

Comedians must have complete freedom of speech to properly perform their craft. It is impossible for them to test out material if they do not have the right to risk offending people. If they practice too much self censorship, they risk losing the humor in their material. People who have never been standup fans should never be allowed to dictate the rules of comedy. Imagine a world without laughter. It's been getting more imaginible in recent years. It's very important for Netflix not to cave to pressure from the LGBT and the media.

This is also a racial issue.

It's important for the black community to not have their leaders taken out in any way ever again. In the past it has been literal assassinations. Now it's character assassination. Character assassins are vultures who refuse to accept the humanity of their targets. Many do not even watch the special. They see media articles with context removed and judge based off that. Chappelle has never denied anyone their humanity. Quite the opposite. He explicitly states this in the special. The special was never really about trans rights and wrongs. It was about the power structure. Dave has been both outspoken and completely absent in his struggle against this power structure and emerged victorious. Now people don't want to let him take a break with a W.

White people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity will always be given preference over black people, within our current system. This includes celebrities who must tiptoe through the tulips to avoid stepping on anything celebrated in White America. Even if it's something that's only been celebrated for a decade or so like trans rights.

This is not only about the black community but about unknown comedians as well. They use the artform as a way to test their worldviews. Humor isn't literal. That's why it's humor. The power of Dave targeting trans in the special is to expose the hypocrisy of mainstream society. Lauded for 8:46, Chappelle is being dragged through the mud in less than a week about his latest special, not for his views, but for his jokes.

Chappelle will leave a legacy for many decades as Pryor did before him. Removing the special will leave an incomplete body of work.

If misguided enough, people in the LGBT community will take out their own.

The removal of the special will mean the erasure of a transwoman who was not famous, who defended her friend Dave valiantly and paid the ultimate price. Daphne Dorman and her family deserve to see her honored by Chappelle in media.

Comedy has always been a powerful force for social change. If comedians have to mince words the power of comedy will also be forgotten.
