Demand Netflix to issue statutory warnings during on-screen violence against women!
Why this petition matters

27-years old Shraddha Walker's story is bound to send chills down your spine. She was strangled by her live-in partner to death, and her body was dismembered into 35 pieces and stored in a refrigerator to be disposed off at random places over the course of the coming months. The killer confessed he was inspired by the crime movies and series he had watched. And, this is not an isolated incident.
Several studies as well as reported incidents in the past have shown that exposure to on-screen violence against women can translate into real-life crimes in no time. When violence against women is normalized or rather glorified in movies and series, especially by shows that have extensive clout, the actual lives of women come under threat.
I, hereby, ask Netflix to add disclaimers (or) statutory warnings during scenes that show crimes being meted out to women. It could be as simple as "Violence against women is strictly punishable under law." When "Smoking kills" can be part of our content, why not also have a warning that deters potential criminals from harming a woman? Doesn't violence kill too?
Join me in this petition, asking Netflix India that they be our ally and induce these statutory warnings in their content that has over a million of Indian subscribers, several of them still youths. Through these warnings, let perpetrators be warned, children be taught, and women be lent solidarity. Ask Netflix to make this happen by International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women!
