We are the University of Cincinnati chapter of the international organization, Free The Slaves, committed to spreading awareness and driving change to ensure that no human being is enslaved.

Nestle sources fish products for their pet food brands, such as Purina and Fancy Feast, from Thailand. Thai fishing ships are commonly run by humans living in slavery, usually trafficked Cambodians who experience starvation, sickness, impossible sleeping conditions, and horrific living spaces. The Thai fishing industry uses slave labor to catch the fish which Nestle purchases for their pet food lines.

According to the New York Times, "Human rights advocates have called for a variety of measures to provide greater oversight, including requiring all commercial fishing ships to have electronic transponders for onshore monitoring and banning the system of long stays at sea and the supply ships that make them possible. But their efforts have gotten little traction." We urge Nestle to take the first steps into examining the source of their fish products and ensuring that no forced labor was used during any step of the process. As a huge corporation with a massive amount of influence, it is Nestle's obligation to take a stand and refuse to support human traffickers. It is crucial that they examine their supply chain and only source fair trade materials when creating their products.
