Big companies such as Mars Bars and Nestle are getting their chocolate from places that are considered "protected areas" in Africa. An example of which is Ivory Coast, a protected forest in Africa. According to Newsela, "Cocoa traders who sell to Mars, Nestlé, Mondelez and other big brands buy beans grown illegally inside protected areas in the Ivory Coast, where rain forest cover has been reduced by more than 80 percent since 1960." Companies must work to produce more sustainable chocolate. How would you feel if your chocolate bar is destroying the environment. Unless change is made, chances are it is.
