There is a clear need at the Neosho MO School District for change in how it deals with diversity, equity, and inclusivity with regard to faculty, staff, and students. We as a community would like to work with the district at making sure every student is included, protected, and safe. We would like to see the following from the Neosho MO School District:

  • We ask that the school district hire a counselor for the district who specializes in diversity, equity, & inclusivity. This counselor should be also an active leader in the DEI training & DEI committee that we would like created. The purpose of this counselor is to ensure the needs of all students are being met & should be considered someone the students will see as a “safe space”.
  • We ask that a districtwide committee be formed dedicated to diversity, equity, inclusivity & safe spaces for students at Neosho MO Schools. We also ask that community members, teachers, as well as students be able to participate.
  • We ask that there be mandatory districtwide training of staff & teachers pertaining to diversity, equity & inclusion for the students. As well as refined policies implemented to protect students who are among the minority from harassment & bullying.
  • We ask that a “safe space” program be implemented in every school. With participation being strictly voluntary but without repercussions. These volunteers can be identifiable to students by a sticker or symbol in the classroom. This “safe space” will be considered a person or place the student can feel safe, equitable, & included for being who they are, without fear.
  • We ask the district to allow diversity, equity, & inclusivity clubs be formed by students. These clubs should be endorsed by the school with adequate promotion. They should also be sponsored & monitored by a “safe space” staff member & the districtwide DEI committee.
