Nelson County Schools Should Outsource Superintendent Hiring To Prevent Nepotism

To prevent unethical and potentially illegal behavior from influencing this critical decision, the Nelson County School Board should hire the Kentucky School Boards Association in its search for a new superintendent. The leadership in Nelson County Schools central office, including select members of the school board, have already engaged in a series of questionable ethical practices in selecting the interim superintendent and forming the hiring committee. This includes the current director of secondary schools (Kim Brown) waging a campaign against one or more potential superintendent candidates already working for the district, to undermine their potential candidacy. It is also notable that the director has been heavily involved in forming the hiring committee that will be instrumental in making the hiring decision. These things, among many other happenings have demonstrated bias and the intent to act unethically, therefore the Nelson County Board of Education should outsource the hiring to a neutral party. If this process is outsourced, the decision is still ultimately up to the Committee/School Board.
