Petitioning Governor Neil Abercrombie and 1 other

Stop gill-netting Wild Hawaiian Bonefish!

Designate Hawaiian Bonefish, O'io, as a "Gamefish." Hawaiian Bonefish are extremely susceptible to mono-filament gill nets and are being overharvested at an alarming rate. These highly regarded sport fish are sold in local markets for pennies a pound to benefit a few individuals at the expense of the rest of our community. "Gamefish" status would prohibit the sale of Bonefish but still allow catch and keep by rod and reel for personal consumption- protecting this valuable community resource from continued over fishing.

Letter to
Governor Neil Abercrombie
Chairperson William Aila
I just signed the following petition addressed to: Hawaii Governor Neil Abercrombie.

-------------------------Designate Hawaiian Bonefish, O'io, as a "Gamefish."-----------------------

Hawaiian Bonefish are extremely susceptible to mono-filament gill nets and continue to be harvested at an alarming rate. These highly regarded sport fish are sold in local markets for pennies a pound to benefit a very few individuals at the expense of the rest of our community. "Gamefish" status would ban sale of Bonefish but still allow catch-and-keep by rod and reel for personal consumption- protecting this extremely valuable community resource from over fishing with gill nets. Please help support progressive resource management and future fishing opportunity for the Children of Hawaii.
