It is important to keep pedestrians and vehicular traffic safe on Tucker Street. By supporting a one-way Tucker Street, I believe we can help ensure this important goal.

Here are some things to consider from a Tucker Street resident. Currently... 

• vehicles traveling from Washington Square go all the way down the hill (despite signage telling them not to do so and to instead, take a left at Mason Street);
• cars travel at an unusually high speed for the street size; from observations, this seems to occur mostly from cars ‘going up the hill’ versus down the hill;
• despite signage saying “No Large Trucks” at both ends of Tucker, this signage is often ignored - or perhaps not noticed; often, large trucks descending Tucker are unable to make the left turn onto Mason Street and seem loathe to want to reverse up the hill (can’t say I blame them for that); therefore, they choose to go all the way (the wrong way) to the bottom of the hill to get to where they are headed - once at the bottom of the hill, they often have to continue to travel the wrong way on Lee Street;
• I’ve witnessed heated altercations (horns blaring, vulgar language, yet fortunately no assaults thusfar) on at least two occasions in the past three months with two vehicles facing one another head-on with neither party willing to move out of the way;
• Tucker is a highly traveled pedestrian and tourist thoroughfare; it is often challenging for pedestrians to move quickly out of the way of vehicles traveling at high speeds (especially at the upper part of Tucker where there is on-street parking);
• finally, numerous children (more than 10) reside on Tucker, Lookout and Mason - a one-way traffic flow will help the safety of younger people in tight street quarters.

PETITION RESULTS
The results of this petition will be shared with the Town of Marblehead to help to facilitate a dialogue between the Town Selectmen, the residents and the Police Department to help keep everyone safe.
