The building of a community garden/park/green space will benefit our neighborhood by offering an area in which residents (young and old) can congregate to socialize, educate and strengthen their lives. There are many children within the 5 mile radius and many talented and gifted people.

The proposed site is an abandoned/derelict property which has been periodically lived in by 2 repeat (at least 40 arrests between the 2 of them within the last 5 years)drug dealers/drug users/criminals. Their presence within this portion of East Medford has taken a toll on its residents. The time when the aforementioned inhabitants are gone, the neighborhood relaxes. Kids play and the residents congregate. The police have been  called numerous times and everyone who lives within a few mile radius is on edge when they are released from jail. The house is beyond repair and the benefits of a green space far outweigh that of the presence of the repeat offenders. 

Our community does not have access to a functional “green space”. With the current social/economic climate it is difficult to feel a sense of community and this improvement would help bond a large group of people.

This proposed project would help eliminate a potential threat and would create a space for physical activity and communal and educational growth in an otherwise affluent area.
