Stop The Verizon Cellphone Tower Project Near WPN - Davenport - Rose Garden Neighborhoods

Please sign this petition to stop the 140 foot Verizon cell phone tower from being built at 1700 Roswell Street before the February 5th Smyrna City Council meeting. The tower will be in very close proximity to our quiet residential neighborhoods. The plan to build the tower was put into motion without the input or knowledge of nearby residents. We believe this is not in the best interest of our neighborhood for the following reasons:
- It will discourage positive growth in the neighborhood. The proposed site is very close to our homes, adjacent to the future roundabout at the 5 Points intersection, on the Public Storage property. Building a 14 story tower in this area will hinder any future positive commercial or residential growth.
- Reduction in property values for the existing homes. Numerous studies have shown the negative impact of cell phone tower construction on property values. More details here. Additionally, neighborhood residents do not want decreased property values caused by an unnecessary cell phone tower, and we hope that the City of Smyrna wouldn't want the value of homes to fall substantially as such a decrease would be accompanied by a significant decline in property tax revenues.
- It does little to improve coverage for residents, because there are already 5 cell phone towers within a 1.5 mile radius of the proposed site. In communications with the WPN President (Keith Bentley), Verizon claimed that residents are complaining about coverage in our neighborhood, but the majority of the proposed coverage improvements would impact commercial real estate, rather than residential. Based on anecdotal evidence, we have seen no issues with Verizon coverage in our neighborhoods. Cell phone towers are built and often leased out to other carriers as a revenue generating activity for the cell phone tower owner. More details here.
- It disrupts the natural beauty and charm of our neighborhood, of which we are all very proud. The proposed 14 story tower is over 2 times taller than the tree canopy in that area. One of the most alluring parts of the neighborhood (besides our wonderful neighbors) is that we are nestled in the natural landscape.
Important: If you are a Verizon Wireless customer, please provide some additional information here.
Thank you for your consideration. We hope you will stand with us in keeping our neighborhoods a great place to live.
