Need to replace and have a sustainable water infrastructure in Jackson, MS

Need to replace and have a sustainable water infrastructure in Jackson, MS
Why this petition matters
The residents of Jackson, Mississippi experienced numerous water issues over the last few decades, acute problems cascaded since at least late July, when the state imposed a boil-water notice for Jackson residents after high levels of turbidity, or cloudiness were noticed. They are now in a crisis requiring assistance from the state and federal government to replace the water infrastructure.
Although, the water pressure is now restored, lack of water and orders to boil water before use is an ongoing issue. Even when Jackson's boil-water advisory is lifted, the water treatment infrastructure will still be in a fragile state. The infrastructure damage has been present for many years.
The water is not safe to drink, cook, use for basic necessary hygiene or even to flush the toilets and impact facilities with air conditioning systems. Lack of access to clean water also creates risk for patients who perform their dialysis treatments at home- and put kidney patients at greater danger of health consequences from impure water. In addition to dealing with COVID, Monkeypox and other diseases, disabilities, and sickness; the elderly, infants, children and entire communities are now at an increased risk.
It is imperative that the Federal and State government immediately address this issue and do whatever is required to replace the infrastructure and provide clean and safe water to this community. Without the basic essential elements of water, the rights of Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness are substantially impaired.
Being Woke with Movement-2 members proudly launched this petition on 11 September 2022, demanding that lawmakers prioritize fixing the damaged infrastructure and provide one of the basic human requirements, to have have safe water to residents.
Federal and State elected officials, we ask that you take immediate action to 1) restore one of the basic necessities to the constituents of Jackson, Mississippi and ensure that they have access to sufficient, safe, acceptable, physically accessible, and affordable water for personal and domestic use by replacing and updating the failing infrastructure, 2) ensure that everyone have physical and affordable access to sanitation, in all spheres of life, that is safe, hygienic, secure, socially and culturally acceptable and that provides privacy and ensures dignity, 3) look at the macroeconomic level for those that will continue to suffer quality of life issues and have all forms of government take a look at their respective government infrastructure(s) in their towns/cities to ensure that the needs of the people are met. Due to current issues, it is of dire urgency that the infrastructures for the constituents living in Baltimore, Maryland and New York City, New York have a high priority on this matter and 4) ensure that all cities are in compliance with 42 U.S.C. 300f et seq. (1.974), The Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). The SDWA was established to protect the quality of drinking water in the U.S.
