In light of past and present events, I believe that all people will benefit from learning the history of African Americans as a mandatory part of school curriculum. If all children are taught about more than slavery and Dr. Martin Luther King jr., on a regular basis, I believe that racial tensions will decrease. By teaching everyone about African American accomplishments and atrocities we've suffered, a greater respect will be given to African Americans, leading to the reduction of prejudice and racially motivated actions. African American history is too expansive to continuously try to cram into the shortest month of the year. This will also instill a great since of pride in the African American community. Several African Americans don't know the true struggle of their ancestors, to get an education, to obtain employment outside of maids and butlers, to be recognized in Hollywood. There are so many aspects of our history and culture that are unknown to so many, including myself. I am 100 percent sure that the key to an all inclusive, united society begins with education.
