Jaxon Bransfield started this petition to Governor Ned Lamont and

The world entered 2020 with the onset of COVID-19. As these past four months have passed, cases have increased and there have been many things done to help slow the spread of the virus. However, many of those implemented rules don’t help out those that are essential employees.

Seeing as how I work at a gas station, I see many people come throughout the day. A good majority of those people though are not essential employees and completely ignore the “Stay Home” and curfew rules. These are people buying things that really aren’t needed. A major reason why they are coming out is because of lottery.

Now, lottery might seem essential to you because you have the chance at winning money during this time of economic struggle when so many people are not working. But it isn’t essential when you’re losing more money than making. It also isn’t essential to life to spend hours on end gambling; getting in line every few minutes to check to see if you won on a ticket.

I am creating this petition for the health and safety of essential employees who deal with hundreds or more people a day. It would greatly reduce our chances of carrying/catching COVID-19 and our footprint in the community to how much we impact the spread. Remember that essential employees are humans and have families too.

Many of us, myself included, have family members or we ourselves have conditions that render us more susceptible to catching COVID-19. We don’t want to see anything happen to our loved ones. We don’t have a choice of who we interact with when we provide customer services that are considered essential. And most people I have interacted with seem to forget that we are humans too. If you are worried about getting sick and are not essential, why should you be coming out and increasing my chance at catching COVID-19 just so you can get lottery tickets?

Someone who is able to stay home and only go out when 100% necessary, their footprint in the pandemic is 3 out of 1000. An essential employees footprint is at least 43, and that is without going to the hotspots. Now imagine if that essential employee comes across someone who has been in a hotspot and is an asymptomatic carrier, that essentials employees risk goes even higher. If we can maintain a low number of people coming in for unnecessary purchases, it will help reduce the increase in cases.

If you want to be part of the solution, please consider signing my petition of shutting down the Lottery for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic. This will hopefully enforce more people to stay at home when they really don’t need to be out and it will also help the essential employees stay safe and healthy with less people interacting with them.
