Why this petition matters

State of Connecticut does not require any employer to pay a non exempt employee if for any reason our department would have to close down due to the new Corona virus out break. On CT Dep of labor website it quotes:

•" If you are a non-exempt “hourly” employee, no. An employer is not required to
pay a non-exempt employee for the time in which he or she performs no work.
• If you are an exempt employee and you have worked for any portion of the week,
yes. The employer is required to pay you the full weekly salary if you work for any
portion of the week.
• Also, it is not permissible for the employer to make any deduction for the time that
the exempt employee is absent from work from the employee’s accrued Paid Time
Off (“PTO”) benefits, because Conn. State Agencies Regs. § 31-60-14(b)(2)(A) does
not permit a deduction “of any kind” when a lack of work is occasioned by the
operating requirements of the employer. "

Which means that for most of us working class in the state of Connecticut who works hourly wages,we are forced to use our PTO(paid time off) to get paid if we were to close down due to covid-19. However the salary employees(exempt employee) will get paid without having to use their PTO.

I demand equality regardless if you are exempt or non exempt. Our President signed the Bill but every states government implements there own rule. I would  like you to please sign this petition for we can forward to Gov. Lamont. It is not fare for most of us CT workers to have to use our PTO if we would be closed down due to Covid-19. We should all get paid regardless.
