Lily Zeeman started this petition to Nebo School District Admins and

The school district needs something to up the cool factor and increases the socialization of students; Why not use Discord?

Discord's app description is; "DISCORD - CHAT FOR GAMERS is an app designed to help gamers talk to each other in real-time. While playing a game on their device, users can log in to Discord and enter a group chat with one or more other gamers so that they can talk while they play. ... You can also block users and avoid content you don't want to see."

As it may be made for gamers, schools have an opportunity for this too. Discord is developing a feature for schools/school districts to have their own Discord servers. I think this would be a good thing for the schools, as it will make it easier for some students to make new friends. Of course, this would be for the older kids, seeing as Discord's TOS state that only users 13 or older should be using the site.

The school wants kids to make more friends, right? It can be hard finding people of similar interests to you in person. Again, another advantage the Discord would have. People of other schools can be communicating with each other through their devices, putting them to good use; I, personally, have made great friends online, but making some new friends that are closer is way better than an online friend.

Rules of the server/things that can be included in the server are:
-Teacher and Student roles - For showing who is who, like who is in power and such.
-Pronoun roles - For students to feel included, and accepting students of all kinds.
-Student Admins and Teacher Admins; This way, students can have the rules controlled and things like rules being broken can be taken care of properly within the server.
-Teacher-only channels OR a teacher-only server - For teachers to talk about work, planning, schedules, substitutes, anything that has to do with their job, just for the teachers.
-Nickname permissions - These are important so you can have your Real Name set on the server, and not for others, for online safety reasons. We can also make it so that students can be able to have their nickname as their preferred name so they will not be misgendered by not-so-accepting students.
-Following Discord TOS - I think that the Discord should only be for students in the Junior Highs and High Schools, because of the Discord TOS; It is 13 and up.
-Student ID verification - When you first join the server, you shouldn't have access to the server; Instead, to verify in the server, you should have to send a picture of your Student ID into a channel created for the specific person, using a custom bot for the server that we can develop.
-Channels to help with schoolwork - Channels for things like tutoring, so students and teachers can help each other with things like math, reading, and schoolwork they need to catch up on.
-Extra Channels - For students to talk about non-school-related topics, like gaming, art, etc.
-Classroom Channels - Temporary channels created by teachers for in-class assignments. Whether it is group projects or the teacher wants you to be quiet whilst communicating, this can make it so students can talk about the assignment before it is due.

As someone who had run the Unofficial PJHS server before deleting it, I think that the server will be successful with the right admins and students inside the server. I personally think that this server would be a great success for teachers and students to connect with other people.

If the school does not accept the petition, then we'll probably make an Unofficial Server for the students to connect themselves.
