Save the Laurels in Lewis Road, Neath.
The Laurels in Neath is for sale by NPTCBC. This building is not listed or protected in any way and is therefore at risk of being destroyed as part of a future development. This could mean a small housing development or flats.
The building is nearly 150 years old and has great historical and community importance. It was a private house, a Red Cross hospital in World War One and then a private house again. During World War Two the MOD used it to house Military Police and in the late forties it was sold to the local authority and was a children's home for nearly half a century. More recently, it was used by social services children's and adult's learning disabilities teams.
Historical conservation is something the council have failed our town on in the past and it us time to change that. Don't let the Laurels be another Highbury Court or Cimla Court re-development and another loss of a beautiful and important Victorian building.
