Port Talbot residents against beach parking meters.

This petition is set up for the removal of the parking meters currently being installed on the slipway at Aberavon beach.
The car park is mainly used by surfers and water enthusiasts alike who surf regularly throughout the year and have used the free parking facilities to enable them to continue their enjoyment of the sport. The area has produced British and European surfing champions who continue to rely on the car park access as a means to surf the infamous break wall wave.
The average surfer in the area uses the car park 3 - 4 times a week. Considering the average cost of £2.50 (based on those installed at Rest Bay, Porthcawl) It would cost an estimated £500 a year to park on the slipway. The only other option is to park on the adjacent streets which would not be fair for local residents and would undoubtedly cause chaos for drivers and pedestrians. Also the time restriction of 2 hours would limit the amount of time surfers could spend in the water practicing their craft.
This is a profit making scheme to line the pockets of council which will be detrimental to the local surfing community and will in no doubt hinder potential athletes to progress in their discipline and penalize those that have utilised the free parking to enjoy a sport that has been prominent in the area for almost 50 years.
Please sing this petition to remove these meters to enable the surfing community and the general public the right to free parking to continue their enjoyment of this beautiful stretch of beach.
Dont allow council bosses to line their pockets with even more public funds.
Stand up for your rights.
