Establish a Valley Park in the Vale of Neath

The Vale of Neath has inspired artists, has been a focal point for industry, and attracts many thousands of visitors each year.

Despite that, the potential of this fantastic asset is untapped. Stretches of the canal are unused or increasingly left in a state of disrepair, signs of our industrial past are forgotten, and miles of forestry that could thrill walkers and mountain bikers from around the world are undeveloped.

Worst of all, there seems little effort being undertaken to turn this around.

About ten years ago the Neath Port Talbot Council published a Western Valleys Strategy report that suggested using common branding across the Neath Valley, marketing the area as Neath Valley Park.

We ask that the Neath Port Talbot Council, along with Natural Resources Wales, undertake work to finally realise this vision. The creation of a Vale of Neath Park, stretching from Tonna and Aberdulais to Glynneath, could give the area a stronger brand identity and wider marketing potential, provide opportunities for the drawing down of funds from various sources for tourism development, secure more visitors to the area and support businesses and jobs.
