Harsher Penalties for Child Abusers

On November 17th, 2017 I found out my husband was abusing my 3 month old son. He had 5 fractures, some fresh, some dating back a month. Thankfully, the two blows to the face that caused bruising under his eyes did not cause any brain damage. He has been charged with Class B Felony Child Abuse, and has a Change of Plea hearing set for May 29th, 2018.
Since this has happened, I have been appalled to learn that many child abuse offenders do not serve jail time. I have filed for divorce, and my soon to be ex-husband has been awarded interim parenting time with the infant he systemically abused for over a month. The only thing preventing parenting time from being carried out at this juncture is a criminal no contact order.
At sentencing, I will be reading a victims impact statement and giving my opinion on an appropriate sentence. I will be asking for 5 years in prison, and 5 years of a continued no contact order and probation. I want him to be labeled a felon, as he too deserves life long consequences. I will also advocate for a full mental health evaluation, and anger management classes.
Ultimately, the judge at his sentencing hearing will decide his fate. Help me demonstrate that as a community of his constituents, we are sick of light penalties for child abusers. I implore him to impose a sentence that sends an unmistakable message to those who perpetrate crimes against children that the justice system will prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.
