This is absolutely absurd to cause this much unnecessary stress on these students when the guidelines and rules were not clearly defined. The Office of Student Conduct will always take the side of the University which makes the hearings completely biased and unfair towards students. Tyler Johnson needs to get off his high horse.

I was accused too and I ended up accepting it because I had no idea he accused this many students so I thought fighting it would not help. I really hope something will be done because this is NOT OKAY.

Through all of my classes transitioning to an online format, my professors were at least somewhat flexible in how the class would operate. They were clear about guidelines, changes, and frequently communicated the factors and logic behind everything that happened in the class. For a professor to accuse such a high percentage of students of an action that could change their path in life, there must be a lapse in communication or a lack of sympathy for the students. Most classes will have a percentage of students who may cheat, but over half of a class has to say something about the professor too. Additionally, the inconsistency in communication for the resources allowed for use should have been worded differently if it was in regards to the test. Giving written persuasion to use other resources is in direct opposition to the previous statements and should nullify the entire agreement. Regardless, the professors for this class are making an accusation that could effect their student’s lives and mental health. A careless accusation of such a high percentage is simply heartless, and shows no though for the students. A handful is understandable, but having one course produce more reports of violation than our university has received in a whole year is just absurd.

Guidelines & protocols need to be transparent. The instructions seem as clear as mud.

The pandemic brought hard times for a lot of people and ALL teachers should have made accommodations and exceptions for students. If the instructors directions for the exam were in fact unclear then there shouldnt even be a debate about whether or not these students were in the wrong. The COVID-19 pandemic has already taken so much from everyone! Please DONT let these unfair accusations affect this many smart students lives any longer.

Due to the number of students accused of cheating, it’s evident that the instructions we poorly stated. Let them all retake the exam, or drop the charges.
