Saturday night the East Carteret girls basketball team hosted Northside in the 3rd round of the playoffs. 35 team fouls were called on East Carteret alone and the team was forced to finish the game with 2 players. To be clear, I don’t think the refs were showing favoritism to one team or the other, I just think they failed to live up to the high expectations set forth by the NCHSAA. I know the outcome of the game will not be changed and that’s fine, but hopefully the State will take a good, hard look at the film and take appropriate action to make sure another team doesn’t suffer the same fate the East Carteret girls were forced to. No one should have to end their High School athletic career like that...
