The intersection of Brier Creek Pkwy and Arnold Palmer Drive is dangerous to vehicle and pedestrian traffic and denies residents a safe, walkable route to the adjacent year-round elementary school and community center. There are no traffic lights or crosswalks to aid navigation and the intersection is congested during rush hour traffic, creating a dangerous four way intersection. Since Brier Creek Parkway falls on the NC Department of Transportation State Highway System, we ask the NCDOT to install 4-way traffic lights and cross walks at the corner of Brier Creek Parkway and Arnold Palmer Drive.
Who Will Benefit?
. Hundreds of families live in the Brier Creek community. This stoplight will provide these residents with a safe route to walk or bike to the Brier Creek Elementary School (pop 800) and Community Center.
· Providing a safe pedestrian route to school will encourage & enable our community to get more physical activity, which also helps us reduce obesity & model healthier behaviors
· A safer intersection will prevent pedestrian and vehicular traffic crashes, which have been occurring with more frequency in recent months (2 in Jan/Feb)
· Our seniors and retirees will also benefit by being able to walk to and from the community center and Walgreens
We respectfully ask that the NC DOT install a traffic light on Brier Creek Parkway at Arnold Palmer Drive in NW Raleigh to provide residents a safe walkable route to the adjacent year-round elementary school and community center.
