Unite Against Racism & Pledge to #TakeAKnee at the Georgia-Alabama National Championship
0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!
We are calling for anyone attending the College Football Playoff National Championship game on Monday, January 8, to kneel in solidarity with athlete-activists who have practiced their constitutional right to protest racial inequality, police brutality, and the disproportionate incarceration of people of color across our country. For those who cannot attend the game, we ask that you support this call by signing the petition and continuing the conversation around racial injustices in our communities.
There could be no better time to do this. As much as 100,000 people are expected to attend the game in Atlanta, including Donald Trump, who has been explicit about suppressing peaceful protests for racial justice and who has attempted to whitewash these demonstrations. The game is a match between two high-profile state universities that yield a lot of profits from their collegiate sports—specifically football, which consists mostly of African-American student athletes. The universities represent two states with unequivocal institutionalized discriminatory practices in law enforcement and where more than half of the prison population is Black.
We kneel in solidarity with athletes peacefully protesting racial inequality and police brutality.
We kneel against the systematic oppression of people of color.
We kneel because to us “this is bigger than football and it would be selfish...to look the other way.”
We strongly encourage those with economic resources to donate to some of the organizations actively advocating for the civil liberties, human rights, and empowerment of people of color in Athens (home of the Georgia Bulldawgs) and Atlanta.
