Zeb Page started this petition to NCAA

Imagine being in the stadium when Jimmy V’s Wolfpack pulled off one of the biggest upsets in NCAA tournament history. Holding your breath with the crowd when Gordon Hayward’s shot was a mere inches from glory. Screaming with a thunderous roar as Marcus Paige drains a very unlikely game-tying three just to be outshined by Kris Jenkins’s buzzer beater.

The Final Four is one of the most sought after and enjoyable events in all of sports. With the kind of star power and excitement that surrounds this event, tickets become very tough to obtain. My mom has spent the past 30 years entering into the ticket lottery hoping one day she would hit the jackpot, and that happened this year. She won two tickets to the Final Four only to have that dream come to a screeching halt with the spread of the COVID19 virus.

Everything was perfectly set for this year’s Final Four as we live near Atlanta, and it looked like our team (Go Duke) had a great shot at making it this year. Regardless of which teams made it, it was bound to be a highlight of our lives. So, why not keep it in Atlanta?

Not only is Mercedes-Benz an excellent location for the event, it has the same feature as all of the other bid cities already set up through the ‘26 season; it’s already built. Unlike hosting the Olympics or the World Cup, the Final Four doesn’t require taking tax payer money to construct new stadiums, housing, or other venues for athletes and viewers. Each city next in line (Indy-2021, NOLA-2022, Houston- 2023, Phoenix- 2024, San Antonio- 2025, Indy again- 2026) already has a basketball arena ready to host, so what’s the harm in pushing everyone’s bid back one year? If not, Atlanta will have to wait until the end of the 2026-27 season to land another bid, and there’s no telling when it would win. Unprecedented problems require unprecedented solutions.

I’m not trying to sound entitled in this petition. I only want to enjoy a once in a lifetime experience with my mom watching our favorite sport, and it’s most grand event with the tickets we luckily obtained.

Thank you very much for your support.
