Keep Div. I, II & III Women's Basketball Finals in Same City
This petition had 849 supporters
Over 6,400 fans gathered to watch the 2016 NCAA Division II and III championship games in Indianapolis. The atmosphere was electric and created an amazing student-athlete experience for these players who demonstrate the same dedication and commitment as their Division I counterparts.
I attended the Division II Elite Eight in 2012 and 2013 and felt sad for the athletes who played in the biggest game of their lives in front of less than 500 people. Though the NCAA created a good experience for the student athletes, it in no way compared to the phenomenal experience Lubbock Christian, Alaska—Anchorage, Thomas More and Tufts enjoyed in 2016.
In the past, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association convention has felt very Division I focused, but in 2016 the association felt more unified as coaches from all levels attended the Division II and III championship games. Division II and III coaches felt both validated and included in the excitement.
In future years, the NCAA may choose not to host all three championship games in the same city, which doesn't seem focused on creating the best experience for student athletes.
Please sign this petition to support a better student athlete experience for Division II and III women's basketball players, and greater synergy created by having all three championships in the same city.
