We are starting this petition because we believe that it is unfair that college athletes are not getting paid the money that they rightfully deserve. College athletes are constantly working hard, honestly having one of the busiest schedules as a college student. Playing a sport in college is basically like a full time job, so they would have no time to get a part-time job to help raise their own money. A college athlete's schedule would consist of them spending about 30-44 hours playing their sport, giving them less time for some academic commitments. To spend that much time on their athletics, trying to get better everyday to show out at games and attract a big audience, bringing in attention and money, and to not get paid for the amount of hard work they put in seems quite unfair. Understandably, they can receive a free education, but there are other expenses that need to be paid for, so how would college athletes pay for those without having time to get a job? And if they do decide to get a job, what about their time to rest their bodies and minds? Being a college athlete may seem easier than it really is, and their hard work is under-minded. Along with this, college athletes are not able to accept outside money. We believe that college athletes should be able to get paid if they are able to advertise themselves and their school.
