We the undersigned students disagree with the following portion of our current dress code, "...clothing that this determined to be too revealing or inappropriate for other reasons will be referred to administration for further discussion and optional clothing choices. Clothes shall be sufficient to conceal undergarments at all times. See- through or fish-net fabrics, halter tops, off-the-shoulder or low- cut tops, bare midriffs and skirts or shorts that are considered too revealing" which indicates that what is deemed "inappropriate" or not is left up to the opinion of admin. Dress code is an important part of our educational environment until it becomes a sexualization of minors and has proven to be sexist. For example, the dress code also states, "Gym shorts may not be worn in classes other than physical education" which is blatantly ignored and overlooked daily. During our current heat wave, multiple boys on campus also wore tank tops which revealed their shoulders, yet had nothing said to them regarding a break of dress code. However, when several girls wore tank tops which revealed midriff and shoulders they were accosted by various staff.
