Sarah Jacobs started this petition to NC State Fraternity and Sorority Life/Housing Corporations

Especially during a pandemic requiring immense amounts of single-use products, food waste is a large issue in society today. As NC State strives to be a more sustainable campus with initiatives spanning the university, greek village needs composing bins! As a community of students, we are so lucky to have our own university-owned composting facility, which accommodates a wide range of discarded organics. Because of this, we feel it is important to make this system more accessible to students on another area on campus. One of NCSU's sustainability initiatives is to achieve a 70% landfill diversion rate towards zero waste by 2022. Currently we are only at about 53% with a little less than a year to go. Involving greek village kitchens, staff, and students would help tremendously and begin a trend towards a greener view of greek life on campus. Unfortunately, this is a costly ask. As a proposal to our university sustainability fund is being drafted (in which every student contributes a $1 to each term), we need YOUR help to advocate that this is something the NC State greek community wants! Our goal is to start with implementing a composting bin behind the Kappa Delta and Delta Gamma sorority houses. If Fraternity & Sorority Life as well as the greek housing corporations can visualize the magnitude of interest, we can make greek village an even greener part of campus.

We've got the space, idea, passion, and time. All we need is your support! Please take 30 seconds to sign this petition to show your interest and desire to bring composting to NC State Greek Village.
