Include Caroline Springs and Burnside in its next 3 year plan

Caroline Springs and Burnside have long suffered from poor internet service. Many houses are unable to access ADSL and are restricted to dial-up or expensive and limited wireless services. Telstra has consistently refused to invest in the necessary infrastructure to improve services.

However, the Federal Government has now established the National Broadband Network which will provide 93% of households in the country with download speeds up to 100mbps. Fibre-optic cable is already being laid in Melton township and in many other parts of the country.

In a recent 3 -year plan, NBN Co outlined which suburbs would be next in line. Neighbouring suburbs such as Taylors Hill and Burnside Heights have been included in the plan. Caroline Springs and Burnside, however, were not.

We understand that not all suburbs can be connected at once.

However, we believe that NBNCo should prioritise those suburbs that currently have the worst internet service. Failure to do so further widens the gap between the best and worst.

If we do not argue our case, and push forward as a community the rollout could possibly take another 10 years, thats 10 years too late, as others will thrive in advanced digital home services, digital health services and first class digital education services that will put our children ahead of the rest of the world, we will still be at an significant disadvantage.

If the Abbott government, who are talking about mothballing the NBN, is elected we may not ever experience the full NBN, While they won't rip up cable from existing homes, if you don't already have NBN when Abbott comes in, you may miss out completely.
