Betty White holds the record for longest television career in American history. In that time she was a pioneer for women in entertainment, being one of the first in female producers in Hollywood for her show “Life with Elizabeth”. She was an advocate for people of color in entertainment. In 1954 she was criticized for featuring Arthur Duncan (an African American Tap dancer) on her variety show “The Betty White show”. When the time came to make the decision whether to allow Arthur to perform, Betty said in favor of featuring him “I’m sorry. Live with it”. The show was soon canceled. Most beloved for her work as Rose Nylund on “The Golden Girls”, she has the sweet wholesome grandmother to generations of viewers. Her love of animals and support of the LGBTQ community has had an immeasurable positive impact. Saying the name Betty White inspires an instant smile and fond memories for millions of Americans. She is a topic of conversation most anyone could agree upon. Something rare to find in todays world. This human was one of the best of us and deserves to be honored with a permanent day of celebration.
