Temporary Reduction in New Brunswick Power Rates During Coronavirus Pandemic.

As New Brunswickers are being told to self isolate to curb the spread of COVID-19, many are using much more power while at home — and already pay among the highest power bills in the country. I believe that with the added financial stress caused by the pandemic, like layoffs or decreased working hours, power rates should be temporarily reduced. New Brunswick Power recently announced they will not cut off anyone’s power for lack of payment for the next three months, but I believes this isn’t enough. I started this petition asking New Brunswick Power to lower the hourly kilowatt rate for the next three months.

If you think New Brunswick deserve a financial break during this time of crisis, sign now.

New Brunswick has been identified by officials as being in a state of emergency due to an outbreak of the novel coronavirus. Many New Brunswickers have been negatively effected by this self-isolation, most specifically in terms of the financial implications due to layoffs, decreases of workable hours for hourly wage earners, limitations placed on small businesses, and, but not limited to, parents who are required to work from home without childcare. Although efforts have been made by the Trudeau government to reduce financial stress through programming, many citizens are still negatively effected or simply do not quality for such programs.

I am therefore requesting that NB Power lowers the hourly kilowatt rate for the next 3 months to their weekend and holiday, off-peak rate. Such reductions will help New Brunswick cope with the added financial stress the pandemic has placed. Large businesses will bounce back from this pandemic.

Small businesses and the average Canadian should not suffer where others are profiting!
