Deliberation on how to spend CARES Act funding has been ongoing for months. During these months, little to no help has gone to all members of the Navajo Nation. The Hardship Fund was created to reach all Dine populations, young to elderly. Though, resistance is being met to transfer more money into and expending the fund expeditiously.

Across America families have been affected by the COVID-19 virus, the Navajo Nation at a drastically raised level. It is undeniable families across all Dine agencies share COVID-19 experiences of lives lost, reduced or lacking income, food and housing insecurity, and holistic imbalances and experiences of mental, emotional, physical and spiritual anguish and despair. These disparities will exist long after the pandemic subsides. They only add to already existing cycles and unfortunate experiences. The Hardship Fund will not alleviate all our shared Dine experiences with the COVID-19 virus but can be a partial solution to short-term financial needs. We, the Dine people, need help now.

The December 30th deadline is nearing, there is no time to discuss alternative ways to expend Navajo Nation CARES Act funds. Unspent funds by Navajo Nation programs need to be put into the Hardship Fund now and approved for payment to, us, the Dine people, as specified by law (NABIO-49-20) relating to this particular funding.

We the Dine people, who make up the beautiful Navajo Nation, are urging the Navajo Nation President and Vice President to acknowledge and abide by laws relating to CARES Act funding passed by Navajo Nation Council. Most important, to listen to us, the Dine people. We need the assistance now. The COVID-19 virus is drastically affecting us. Act now for your people, President Nez and Vice-President Lizer.

Respectfully,

The Dine people and supporters
